Minimalism & Design

What is it about minimalist design that we love?

Perhaps it is the concept of potential. It’s like a blank slate where anything is possible. In other cases it is thoughtful design, every detail is considered. In our world where environmental considerations are increasingly critical, having items that serve multiple purposes yet are simple and artistic is paramount.

Purposeful Placement

Placed items combine function with beauty. For me, this satisfies my craving for organization and simplicity. I used to think that minimalism meant not having many items, or having a barren space. Now, I think of it as being thoughtful. Only having what you truly need and use. And if there’s an opportunity to make it beautiful, even better.

Seeking Out Details

Increasingly, on shoots that are staged, I will spend extra time and seek out the corners and details that draw me in. This is not random, it takes skill, and I applaud the designers I work with who have mastered this skill. Some designers and stagers I recommend are (of course) Jenna Josephson from JJ Interiors, almost every beautiful design shot I’ve posted has been from a job I’ve done with her.

The Rex

Here is a shot from a recent shoot I completed for developer Pacific Cove Properties at The Rex in Abbotsford, was staged beautifully by Area3 Design. Keep up the great work guys!

Cozy Composition

Matching colours, modern minimalist art and decor, and a touch of nature bring this bedroom scene together perfectly.
